Welcome to the Documentation Centre for Displacement, Expulsion, Reconciliation!

Today we welcome our new Director, Dr Roland Borchers, on his first day at the Documentation Centre for Displacement, Expulsion, Reconciliation. He was warmly welcomed by the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Maria Bering (Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media), and by Dr Christiane Schwarte from the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI). Both wished him every success and a good start in his new role.

We would also like to extend our special thanks to Dr Nils Köhler, who has led and represented the Foundation as acting director over the past two months.

Dr Roland Borchers is a historian specialising in Eastern Europe. He studied history, political science and Polish studies in Berlin, Vienna and Warsaw. From 2009 to 2015, he worked at the Institute for Eastern European Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin, followed by a stint at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) in 2016/17. From 2017, he worked at the Documentation Centre for Nazi Forced Labour at the Topography of Terror Foundation, and has been its deputy director since 2024. With his many years of academic and institutional experience, he is now taking over the leadership of our foundation.

We are very much looking forward to working with him and extend a warm welcome to Dr Roland Borchers!
