Vor Zeit / Przedczas

A woman travels to a Silesian village in Poland, from which one of her ancestors hailed. Her search for traces takes her through landscapes and stories, to people of German and Polish descent, to monuments, ruins and archaeological excavations. What began as genealogical research thus develops into a multi-layered history of migration that stretches far back into the past – right back to the age of the dinosaurs. Straddling the line between documentary and fiction, the film explores the question of what ‘origin’ and ‘roots’ actually mean.
The film has been screened at DOK Leipzig, the Kassel Dokfest, the Film Festival Cottbus, the Achtung Berlin Film Festival, the Pochen Biennale Symposium, the Arsenal Berlin, the Kozzi Film Festival in Zielona Góra and DocBuenosAires.
